Macron was out in numbers at the RGC Junior Cup Finals Weekend, where over 6,300 spectators filled Stadiwm CSM in Colwyn Bay to support 1,000 young players across 20 finals (North Wales Rugby, 2025). The turnout was a strong sign that rugby—and sport in general—is thriving in North Wales.
While a recent article by Trevor Lloyd highlights how "over 50% of secondary schools in Wales no longer play rugby due to funding cuts and lost facilities (Lloyd, 2024), North Wales is bucking the trend. The region’s investment in community rugby, led by RGC 1404, is paying off. In terms of participation numbers, rugby is a growing sport in North Wales,” said RGC GM Alun Pritchard, adding, “With a little more investment, we could really see the rugby landscape... take a massive leap forward” (North Wales Rugby, 2025).
Macron and WRU have partnered in aim to support rugby across Wales.
